沙鹿地區以旱田為主，其中以花生、芝麻產量最多，需要榨油的話，必須自運到油車間。「麻園十二庄」就是因為移民到本地開墾之初，放火燒荒埔墾殖種植胡麻而得名；足以說明本鎮油脂作物古來即盛，提供油車間運轉的原料。直到5、60年代種植型態有較大的改變，花生種植面積逐漸增加，而芝麻種植漸次減少的趨勢，這就是本鎮油車間轉為壓榨花生油為大宗的主要因素。明昌油商行，張要高原先工作為建築業及修理機械，在油廠協助修理機械久了，便開始做起油車間的生意。起先是幫農家壓榨花生油，後來因許多人詢問是否有賣油，而開始買進原料製作花生油。

Shalu Area is mainly crop fields, and peanut and sesame are the most productive products. If people need to extract oil, they have to drive to cooking oil shops. “Sesame Farm with 12 Villages” is named by the reason that the immigrants moved here during the early settlement and burned the deserted land and planted linseed oil. This is why the abundance of oil crops provide the raw materials for cooking oil shops. Until the 1960s and1970s , the crop fields had been a great change. The fields of peanut planting were
gradually increased but the fields of sesame oil planting weren’t. The number of fields gradually decreased. This is the main factor that peanut oil extract became the main business for cooking oil shop. Initially, it helped farmers extract oil. Then due to the fact that , many people ask about oil selling, the store began to buy raw materials to make peanut oil.
