Moved here last year from Baltimore, MD. Did most of my shopping at Farmers market and Whole Foods. Found Native Son Farm. Their produce is so fresh and I get to sample new items. Last fall we had white turnips that were so sweet and the greens were an absolute delight sautéed with garlic in olive oil.Jean Bartlett

Why would a single city girl with friends and a social life move from Tampa to North Mississippi? What would possess her to create a small farm with no background in livestock or even gardening? I honestly have no idea either.
I suppose the idea of doing something completely for myself and becoming more self-reliant was appealing. So was having to stretch the boundaries of my creativity. Working with the land and animals requires a lot of resourcefulness.
What I do know is in the year since I made the leap from city to country I’ve found more happiness and peace than I’ve ever experienced before. Hopefully you’ll enjoy following while I attempt to create a fabulous farm life! xo
The Tougaloo Rainbow Garden is a cooperative effort between Tougaloo College and Rainbow Whole Foods both in Jackson, MS. We provide volunteer opportunities for organic gardening and permaculture projects.
Our mission is to produce high-quality food for the Tougaloo educational community as well as the Rainbow Natural Grocery community. The garden will demonstrate community, civic engagement and organic, sustainable agriculture. We intend the garden to be a place of beauty, joy and sharing with the outdoor classroom inspiring additional sustainable agricultural community projects. 601-573-7529
