Not alone our family name means in German 'Green' but we are since many years in 'the green way of living'. We have build our farm house (750qm2, Stellenbosch Knorhoek) in a 'husband & wife team' with sandbags, in a very alternative way. Though we have been in many articles in magazines, visited by many green organizations including the housing ministers but might be you like some information or pictures on this way of building. Just would like to mention we unfortunately are not open to the public for viewing any more.
Than we cook with a solar cooker most of the time in the healthiest way and we farm organically for many years with raspberries distributing them to first class restaurants and hotels in CT, we are now changing to granadillas and have expanded farming to the West Coast, Lutzville for export demands.
Protea Hill Farm is farming completely natural, in co-existence with indigenous plants like wild proteas, moraeas and fynbos. We produce and export 23 different flavours of balsamic vinegars ("EAT IN Produce Awards 2006 /2007) without any chemical additives. If you want to know about any of our 'green doings', you are welcome to contact me privately (nina@proteahillfarm.co.za) and I can provide you with information and pictures.
Kind regards
