Hillside Wildlife Corridor is an extensive area (27 hectares) of natural open space, just one mile from Swansea City Centre.

Sandwiched between Townhill, Mayhill and Mount Pleasant areas, it provides valuable recreational space as well as supporting a surprising variety of wildlife. It also has high educational value, panoramic views of Swansea Bay and a rich and varied history.

The site contains a wide variety of habitats including woodland, heathland, scrub and wetlands. You can spot foxes and foxgloves, royal fern and red admiral butterflies as well as old field boundaries and hedgebanks dating back to the Enclosures Act of the 18th Century.

Many improvements have been carried out by local community groups, the City of Swansea Training Centre, volunteers and schools with the assistance of the nature conservation team at the City and County of Swansea.
Rosehill Quarry

Quarrying originally began here in the 1840s, providing much of the building stone for local use. After years of neglect Rosehill Quarry is now enjoying a new lease of life as a quiet sanctuary where wildlife can shelter and people can get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Since the 1980s pioneering work by the Rosehill Quarry community group has transformed the site into Swansea's first community park, improving access for all and encouraging a rich community of plants and animals to develop. Now there are several ponds, a stream and a waterfall with numerous damselflies and dragonflies. A speciality of Rosehill Quarry, royal fern, can also be found here.

There is a BMX track, a kick about area, picnic tables and an unusual Cretan labyrinth made with shells.

There are many access points to this long site: i.e. off Pant-y-celyn Road by Swansea Institute of Higher Education; off Penlan Crescent; off Terrace Road; from Fairfield Terrace; Nicander Parade; the end of Hensen Street; North Hill Road; Baptist Well Place; High View; Granogwen Road.
