Ortonville's Heritage Garden is designed to honor both our natural and cultural heritage, and to teach residents about the vaule of native plants for wildlife habitat, water conservation, and stormwater management. The local genotype native plants in Heritage Garden have deep root systems to take up and filter our stormwater pollutants, and provide food and nesting opportunities for wildlife. Three benches that were designed in the 1930's by Aldo Leopold, the grandfather of the conservation movement, were buit by Ortonville's Woodworking Club. The garden is designed to reflect the geometric design typical of the period of the late 1800's when the adjoining historic Old Township Hall was built. The garden is maintained by the Ortonville Native Landscape Team
