Croatoan Archaeological Society
Overview
The Croatoan Archaeological Society is a community organization founded by native Hatteras Islander, Scott Dawson, whose geneaological roots to Croatoan go deeper than any shovel could ever reach, and his wife, Maggie Dawson. The CAS was established in November 2009.
The primary mission of CAS is to gain as much knowledge as possible about the past history of Croatoan, or modern-day Hatteras Island, and the people that inhabited said island, through scientific methods of archaeology, while protecting the native people and property owners of Hatteras Island.
