History
This pousada began when Rene, an Australia woman with a vision, moved to Ilha Grande. She purchased the place from the previous owner and drastically went to work. Her vision was to create a breathtaking, yet sustainable place for people to come and stay. Rene, who lives on the property, found her staff and eagerly went to work to watch her dreams turn into a reality. As a woman who grew up in a household of sustainability and practiced safe environmental methods, she took her knowledge, lessons and upbringing and applied them to her business. Through all of her hard work and dedication, visitors are able to stay in an environmentally friendly pousada where sustainability is always on the forefront.

The chalets are built in a rustic, ecologically friendly style, designed to be in harmony with the vibrancy of the surrounding nature. Whether during the day, or by night, the chalets provide a relaxing, cozy and comfortable environment.

Sustainable features
Pousada Aratinga has aworkforce comprised of island locals, energy efficient light bulbs and all wood work and timber is certified environmentally efficient. Also, a large compost with worms feed on waste matter and produce rich and dense soil for planting. All gardens, walkways and structures were created from materials that were already on the property. Food comes from the gardens and everything is recycled. Items that cannot be recycled and placed in the compost are sold to locals who then take the items to the main land for recycling.
