Englewood Community Hospital is part of the HCA West Florida family of hospitals, offering a wide variety of medical services. Its recycling program is comprehensive and effective, and the hospital has instituted several measures to reduce its water and energy use. Most impressive is the hospital’s efforts to communicate their environmental commitment to the staff and public. The hospital has a very motivated “green team” that identifies environmental improvement opportunities and implements changes. The hospital has also produced environmental awareness materials that they are donating to local libraries.
Englewood Community Hospital became a Sarasota County Green Business Partner in 2009. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County.
