Lewis Wetzel Cave is a historic geologic feature unique to the local history of Wheeling, West Virginia. Discovered by Lewis Wetzel in 1788, the cave was used by Native Americans during fighting along the frontier. The immediate area around the cave was the scene of several mysterious disappearances before Wetzel investigated the area and ambushed Native Warriors using the site as a base of operations.
