The Bowery along Chatham Square was populated by drunks and the homeless seeking to spend the night when Chinese arrived in New York. Yet, the Bowery was where Miss Campbell’s Presbyterian Mission was located. Miss Campbell was known for saving and reforming prostitutes among Chinese girls.
