The Lang Tannery

Overview
Bounded by Victoria, Charles, Frances and Joseph streets and across the street from The University of Waterloo, Health Sciences Centre, "The Tannery" will be a vibrant community where diverse users can share space and ideas.
The Tannery will be a key "convergence centre" in Kitchener where creativity and business will flourish - a place that will help companies recruit and retain a new generation of employees, and a place that caters to people beyond the nine-to-five.
New tenants from the technology, digital media, and life sciences industries will interact with existing artisans, graphic designers, photographers, in the 350,000 sq. ft. complex that is now being redeveloped - space that has real character, with open floor plans, exposed brick and beam and a host of modern amenities.
The Tannery's central courtyard will be a venue for special events and festivals, where a passerby can enjoy a cappuccino at the outdoor cafe or a music lover can catch a jazz concert. Renovations have already begun.
A new entrance lobby will be built off Victoria Street. Walkways will bring pedestrians into the development, which will also feature a gallery celebrating the building's industrial heritage. Additional parking will be added for retail users at Charles and Victoria Streets.

The Lang Tannery complex is one of the first substantial examples of the redevelopment of downtown Kitchener into a 'creative space'. The Tannery is a great example of creative re-use of existing historic built assets and has attracted several high-tech companies as tenants. It has positioned itself as an incubator for further creative projects within the downtown core.
- Kitchener CanadaGreat example of adaptive re-use and a bold and daring development investment in a brownfield site that will reap many benefits. This conversion of an abandoned warehouse is turning this major intersection downtown into a destination site; providing significant high-salaried employment of creative-class talent that will contribute significantly to the liveliness and prosperity of downtown Kitchener over the coming years.
