Dufour Family Farms is exactly what the name says – a family. Coming from a long line of Maine potato farmers, the three Dufour siblings (Vaughn Dufour, Dean Dufour, Gayle Obregon) have been gardening all their lives in a variety of climates, including Sarasota. Also known as “The Herb Guys”, Dufour Family Farms have brought locally grown culinary herb plants like basil, oregano, chives, and tarragon, to the Sarasota Farmers Market for over two years. Their knowledge and expertise is also bolstered by a rich family history steeped in plants.

As a green business partner, Dufour Family Farms is working to protect our environment in numerous ways. The farm has developed a company policy that emphasizes conservation of resources and has an active recycling and reuse program is in place throughout the organization. They utilize reclaimed wood, take metal to the scrap yard and compost all farm waste. Additionally, a rain barrel collection system is used to water household plants. Dufour Family Farms has set up a system for their customers to return used bags and plant pots. The products sold at the farmers markets are packaged in Earth First biodegradable and recycled bags.

Giving back and working with local charities is an important part of Dufour Family Farms. One of the ways they give back is working with several local schools. They assist the schools with creating raised bed gardens and via plant donations.
Dufour Family Farms can be found every Saturday at the Sarasota Farmers Market.

Dufour Family Farms became a Sarasota County Green Business Partner in 2015. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County.
