The Medical Technology & Simulation Center at SCF Lakewood Ranch opened for Fall 2010 classes. The two-story, 42,000 sq. ft. building houses nursing, other health professions, education and SCF"s new Energy Technology Management Program. The center is SCF's first green certified building and achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification.

A 1,600-square-foot chiller plant uses a Thermal Energy Storage system to provide air conditioning for the campus during peak times and conserve energy and a water condensate recovery system to conserve water.

Important features in this building include the nursing skills lab, nursing assessment lab and Intensive Care Unit lab with state-of-the-art technology including patient simulators, electronic medical records, drug recognition system and medication-dispensing devices.

Located next to the existing Center for Innovation and Technology, the MTS Center is the second building at the College’s Lakewood Ranch location. Long-range plans for the 10-acre campus call for a third classroom and laboratory building, a multi-story parking garage and a courtyard.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certified Building The Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) designation is an internationally recognized green building certification that independently verifies that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
