학명 : Prionailurus bengalensis Kerr, 1792
(상세설명)
식육목 포유류 중에서 가장 작은 동물이다. 꼬리는 매우 짧고 끝이 뾰족하며, 다리도 매우 짧다. 암수 간에 성적크기이형이 뚜렷하다. 겨울철에는 꼬리 끝을 제외한 몸 전체가 백색을 띠며, 여름에는 어두운 갈색을 띤다. 주로 설치류를 잡아먹고 살아간다. 교미는 3월에 시작되며, 새끼는 한배에 3-9마리를 낳는다.
