Greenwich Township Library Demonstration Rain Garden

Visão geral
History:
The Greenwich Township Library rain garden was installed to beautify the site. The project was initiated by a Gloucetser County Master Gardener who was previously trained through the Stormwater Management in Your Backyard lectures.
Type of Runoff Managed:
This rain garden manages stormwater from the Greenwich Township Library's rooftop. The runoff from the building site is conveyed into a swale that eventually discarges into a detention basin adjacent to the parking lot.
Installation:
Staff from Rutgers Cooperative Extension and approximately five Master Gardeners of Gloucester County were present for the installation of the rain garden in November 2007, which was approved by the Greenwich Township Mayor and the Greenwhich Township Planning Board. In addition to volunteering their time, the Master Gardeners of Gloucester County donated the native plants for the rain garden. Additional plants were purchased from a nearby nursery. The upper portion of the existing swale was retrofitted with a rain garden. The overflow from the rain garden will discharge into the existing swale and eventually to the detention basin.
Plant List:
Blue Flag Iris
Cardinal Flower
