This is a strenuous 2.5 mile hike. The work is well worth it for the views. Once at the top, the elevation is 4458 feet. This is the highest peak on the Georgia section of the AT. It takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete. To get to Neels Gap from Dahlonega, take hwy 19N to Turner's corner. Take a left on hwy 19/129 and continue past Walasi-yi center about 1/2 mile to the parking lot on the left. If there are any empty spaces at the Walasi-yi center, you may park there. If not, continue to the lot on the left. Be sure and stop by the Walasi-yi center at some point during during visit. It is the only building that is actually on the Appalachian Trail and full of history. They have snacks, restrooms, showers, and carry some of the best hiking gear anywhere. They also have some unique items for souvenirs.
