Overview
The James River provides several recreational activities including tubing, canoeing, kayaking, and rafting. Richmond is unique in that it has Class III and IV rapids in an urban setting. The rapids range from Class I to IV, thus a trip can be mild or adventurous. A variety of wildlife such as native deer, blue herons, ospreys, and bald eagles can be spotted along the river. Along the shoreline, there are rock climbing and biking sites. Several outdoor adventure stores in the area offer tours and rental equipment.
