The Museum of the Confederacy
Overview
Richmond was the capitol of the Confederate States of America and is home to The Museum of the Confederacy, which has the most comprehensive collection of artifacts, manuscripts, and photographs from the Confederate States of America. Visitors can also tour 11 historically accurate restored rooms in the White House of the Confederacy, where Confederate President Jefferson Davis lived from 1861-1865. The house was built in the early 1800's and is designated as a National Historic Landmark. The museum organizes and sponsors a variety of lectures, special events, and programs that explore American society in the 1800's.
