Intersection at the end of main street.

Challenges and opportunities:

Challenges:

—Sidewalks are not wide enough for comfortable walking down White Street
—Not wide enough for informal gatherings anywhere
—Streets are not buffered from traffic
—Crosswalks are non-existent
—Crossing distance is wide in either direction
—Speed of vehicles is intimidating for pedestrians, bicyclists
—There is no crossing signal
—No safe biking accommodation
— Curb radii have a wide angles, not 90 degrees (safest for pedestrians)
— Vehicles tend to accelerate downhill
— Vehicles make unsafe U-turns to find parking
— The flow of traffic and turning movements is not easily understood (ie yield sign on White Street stands far back from the street; pedestrians seem confused as to the best path to cross the intersection).
— The corner is blind
— The intersection lacks unique/memorable features
— Trash is accessible, but no recycling is visible
— Area is not inviting to pedestrians

Opportunities:

—One resident interviewed suggested two crosswalks (crossing White and Main)
—Adding a triangle as a pedestrian refuge in the center of the street
—Adding traffic roundabout to clearly direct traffic
