Biofiltration Wetlands Educational Learning Laboratory (BeWELL) Project
Rezumat
This is a project managed by MESA Butte College student as interns. The students intentions in this project are to place a biofiltration system to ameliorate the entrance of impervious parking lots storm water runoff from directly entering Salmonid-bearing waters of Clear Creek. Currently the eastern parking complex does not receive adequate biofiltration treatment prior to discharge into free-flowing stream. This designed system when implemented will detain the 100- year event for infiltration and discharge the low flow events (< 2 year event ) into a treatment of biofiltration wetlands swale. The installed system will provide opportunities for public and educational demonstration of landscape sustainable practices consistent with sustainable campus design. This project provides multi-department/program involvement including Horticulture, Heavy Equipment Operation, Biology (General Biology, Microbiology), Chemistry, Civil Engineering, and internships for Mesa programs Participants.
