Nsimbini Community Garden is one amongst many initiative of eThekwini Municipality to ensure nutrition security through the involvement of community members in gardening. What is so interesting about this site is that it uses permaculture principles in all what is done to produce vegetables. The public members were trained on double digging and they were also allowed to use indigenous knowledge. Water is captured from a nearby stream through a low tech pump designed by local people assisted by professional based on their understanding of pressure. The Municipality's Agrarian Management Unit has also supported the diverging of storm water from the nearby settlement to be used to water the plants.
