The Umgeni River Bird Park was established in 1984 in an old quarry site. The park is home to several thousand indigenous and exotic birds, and was once considered the finest bird park in the southern hemisphere. The free flight bird show, the only one in Africa, first started in 1995 and is now one of the main attractions at the park. Other attractions include the spectacular waterfalls, lush vegetation, walk-through aviaries and open paddocks. The park also caters to school and tour groups.
