Before 1856, when the first trains ran between Newark & West Bloomfield, the sole means of public transport was by stagecoach. This much altered building once served as a stagecoach stop on the Newark & Pompton Turnpike.
It is an important local landmark and has been included on house tours. Built in 1767, the home is listed on the State Register of Historic Places.
