Holland Marsh is a large wetland that is a rich agricultural area, that has been given the name 'Ontario's vegetable patch', or 'Ontario's salad bowl'. As its nicknames suggests the soils in the area are perfect for growing vegetables. The soil is a rich muck soil of fertile peat which creates ideal growing conditions along with the climate.
