2009 Solar Tour - Rapini Home - 3.6 kW Solar PV

Rezumat

This small suburban ranch features a 3600W ground-level solar array that transmits power over 200 feet at high voltage via an underground conduit to a grid tied inverter, allowing the array to be more easily maintained and shade trees to remain around the house. A separate 45W array powers a remote water pumping system and an electric fence for the garden.

There is a simple geothermal cooling system still under development, a 500W wind turbine, a generating exercise bike that helps power the home, energy efficient appliances, and an electric car that's used daily for work commutes. Energy efficient appliances include an Aquastar tankless water heater, an Asko dishwasher, a Staber clothes washer, and a Sunfrost refrigerator.
