Ashurst Rain Garden
Overview
Clean water is a precious resource. The City of University Heights is helping to preserve this
resource by creating raingardens that benefit us all. Fall of 2010, a forest raingarden was
installed at 2603 Ashurst Road to help manage stormwater runoff and enrich the natural
environment of the neighborhood. The Northeast Regional Sewer District awarded funding for
the project that was designed and installed by CW Waterworks, Inc. The site is in a residential
neighborhood on a lot that was vacant after demolition of a long abandoned house.
Stormwater runoff from the vacant lot became a problem for the neighbors and was the
stimulus for the neighborhood to work with the city to find a good solution.
