This construction site used to be the Revere Sugar factory, but shut down some time ago. This place is located on the scenic Red Hook waterfront, though the view of the abandoned factory is not so beautiful. If the factory could be made into something more productive and helpful to the environment, rather than be left as a blight site, it would help beautify the neighborhood. The factory was sold to Thor Equities in 2005 who planned on turning the site into a mall or condos. They have yet to make any changes to the site. We at Hook Productions think it would be a perfect site for summer music and arts festivals or youth programs!

The construction site in Red Hook used to be a sugar factory but now it is run down and disgusting with piles of rubble everywhere.

There isn't much to say about this construction site besides the fact that it used to be a sugar factory and would definitely be a great location for a teen library or something else that would benefit the young minds of the community.

I think all the abandoned factories in Red Hook could have much better uses. For example, they could be used as sites for summer arts festivals. That would not only beautify the community, but create more much needed entertainment here as well!

Actually, Dance Theatre Etcetera produces an annual summer festival at the sight of a once-abandoned warehouse, now housed (and generously loaned) by Cornell Paper & Box. You'll have to wait till next year for the festival to roll around again, but check out our blog to keep up to date on arts events in the neighborhood!
