There are two commemorative stones for the Rebecca riots of 1843 in Pontarddulais. This first stone is by far the larger of the two and has a plaque with the inscription - " The Pontarddulais Toll Gate was destroyed on the 6th of September, 1843 by the Daughters of Rebecca led by John Hughes (Jac Ty-isha)"
