Mynydd Gelliwastad is a long narrow hill (79.4 hectares) providing lovely views of both sides of valley.

There are areas of heathland with bilberry and a small area of woodland to north end of site. Rhyddwen Common (14.6 hectares) is a small wooded area of common land adjacent to Mynydd Gelliwastad on its eastern boundary and with a stream - Nant y Milwr - on western boundary.

Homelean Wood is approximately 68 hectares, composed of upland habitat communities. The remaining lowland areas of the site encompasses a mosaic of semi-natural broad-leaved woodland dominated by oak and beech, dry dwarf acid heath, improved grassland, bracken dominated areas and patches of dense / continuous scrub with birch dominating the highest slopes.
