The Jewel Box is an enormous greenhouse in the heart of Forest Park. It was built by the City of St. Louis in 1936 and is operated by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry. It is in the National Historic Register, an honor awarded by the National Park Service and the U.S. Department of the Interior, and it was given this distinction because it was “locally significant in the area of architecture" and also because the Art Deco-style building was an "outstanding example of greenhouse design.”

The Jewel Box is an impressive structure. Its main room is 50 feet high, 55 feet wide and 144 feet long, and it contains hundreds of flowers. As well, the design of the Jewel Box is such that it allows natural light in from all angles. It has many special flowers throughout the year, such as at Christmas, on Mother's Day, and at Easter. It is also a popular destination for weddings and other special events.
