Kohl's will continue our committed, integrated approach to long-term resource sustainability in all facets of our business endeavors. Kohl's embraces programs that are good for the environment. It has been our long-term practice to seek ways to conserve our resources through energy management, recycling and building design. This business strategy is clearly good for customers, shareholders and the environment as we strive each year to reduce our operating expenses. Clearly, "green goes with everything."

Top Accomplishments

* Kohl's was recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency in 2007 and 2008 with a Green Power Leadership Award and is ranked No. 1 on EPA's list of top retail purchasers of renewable energy.

* Kohl's is installing solar power in 100 stores in six states as a long-term commitment to renewable energy.

* As of April 2009, over 200 Kohl's stores earned the ENERGY STAR label for superior energy efficiency and environmental performance marking the largest group of retail buildings to earn the label in ENERGY STAR history.

* As of April 2009, Kohl's will operate 63 environmentally friendly stores. All 63 were constructed using the LEED initial certification prototype. In April 2009, the first three stores that earned LEED certification are Burlington, WI—Silver Certification, Linden, NJ—Silver Certification and Gibsonia, PA—Certified. The remaining 60 stores will be certified later in 2009 by the United States Green Building Council.

* More than 36% of all our inbound transportation moves on rail. This type of freight movement is three times cleaner than over-the-road trucks.
