The Shongweni Dam is used for a number of non-motorised boating activities, such as canoeing and fishing. The
Shongweni Resources Reserve, which includes and surrounds the dam, is home to a spectacular diversity of fauna and flora. The 1,700ha reserve comprises cliffs, waterfalls, rivers, open grasslands and bushveld. The reserve also offers visitors the opportunity to view large game, such as White Rhino and Giraffe.

Driving Directions: Travel on the N3 west from Durban towards
Pietermaritzburg. Take the Shongweni/Assagay off-ramp and turn left into the MR551. Turn left at the next intersection into the MR559 (Milky Way). Turn right at the next intersection into the MR461. Travel on the tar road for 6km to the main gate (follow
Shongweni Dam directional boards).
