Museo Historico Nacional (National History Museum)
Översikt
The National History Museum is located in the center of Santiago, its main square “Plaza de Armas”. The building has a neoclassic style and was built between 1804 and 1808. During the time the building had been used as Justice Court, Governor House, and Post office until 1978. In 1969 was declared a national monument. In 1978 the building started a large restoration to finally open the National History Museum in 1982 (The National History Museum already existed in a different location since 1874). The museum covers the period of time from the European discovery of the Americas to the seventies. It features several rooms of exhibits, and the easy-to-follow layout leads the visitor from discovery to the colonial era, through independence and into the modern era. This museum is a “must” for those visitors who want to learn more about the Chilean history and culture. National History Museum is easy to access by Plaza de Armas Subway station, with the 5 train.
