Culross Palace and Gardens
Overview
Built between 1597 and 1611 for Sir George Bruce, the palace is a unique restoration of a merchant's town house. Although never a royal residence, King James VI visited in 1615. The Bessie Bar tearoom is housed in the malthouse, Bessie Bar is thought to have been a niece of Sir George Bruce. The Palace has splendid terraced gardens, featuring plants known to have been grown in the 17th century.
Palace, Study, and Town House: 2 Apr to 31 May, Thur–Mon 12–5; 1 Jun to 31 Aug, daily 12–5; 3 to 29 Sep, Thur–-Mon 12–5; 1 to 31 Oct, Thur–Mon 12–4.
Access to The Study and Town House is by guided tour only. Tours depart from palace reception every hour. First tour departs 1pm, last tour departs 4pm (3pm in October). Tours last approx 1 hour.
Bessie Bar Tearoom: open same dates until 5.30pm (4.30pm in October).
Garden: all year, daily 10–6 or sunset if earlier.
