Hi - I believe I went to school with your dad (class of 82 Greenfield, MA). Didn't know him very well and just happened to see his very sad death on someones fb page. Hope life is treating you well! :)
I am John's Aunt Christine from Massachusetts , We spent a lot of time together growing up together I will be visiting in November when my son will be graduating from Lackland Air Force Base in November I will visit the park, also hope to see family while I am there I think of John often .So many childhood memories. Love you John!!!!!!! :)
I love my dad's park! It is sooo beutiful, even if everything is dead lol. I took my senior pics ther eand they turned out perfect!!! I'M SO EXCITED TO see the next 2 phases come into play!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved the O.P. until it was so filthy down in the river bed... too bad. We even took trash sacks with us as a family and would pick up trash..and haul out four large bags each time.. worse the next time.. if it was clean it would be one of the best parks in the city.
I visit the park often and there is almost always someone enjoying the park. It was really cool to see baby ducks there. I'm glad my daughters have a special place to feel connected to their dad. - Tammy (Lynn) Wheeler
I wrote a few moths ago. Looking at my old HS yearbook and we are on the same page. Hope you have found some peace in your life!
I'm so glad you appreciate the park and that the City established one in the name of your father. With the better weather we've been having the past few months, I'm sure that the park looks lovely now. -SC
Its gotten alot better since the park clean up. But they are updating the trails and the maps, which seems like its taking along time to do so =/ i would love to know the EXACT trail length not the supposed 4.5 miles it says since 2006 ive jogged those trails almost daily and i know its not that short.
would like to see faster updates, as for the trash in the park its gotten a ton better. You just gotta watch out for the swarms of mosquitoes this time of season =/
John may be gone and he lives in our hearts. In life he was a hero, he was an example to others. He has left a mark for us to live up to and a path to follow. John I did not get to tell you when you were alive but you were my hero. You left us to soon my brother.
Robert G. Wheeler - (John's older Brother)
My husband would love that the park was in the middle of his patrol area with SAPD. There is alot of traffic on the side street, but when I am at the park I dont even hear the cars. It's a peaceful area that I go to remember all we shared together. Coming up on 5 years since his death, his body is gone, but the emotions and love we shared still go on. I feel him around me, and know he watches my every move. He would be proud of all we accomplished...as he is still with me moving through my life. Love the park! And in silence I feel him near.
