My mother, who just passed away at the age of 92, recorded in her memory book of her visits to Mother's Garden. She said there were "roses galore" and it was a favorite place to visit, especially on Sunday afternoons. Sounds like she would have been visiting there when it was still "new".
I walked the area and found it to be suitable for a disc golf course (18-27 holes).
The water is not safe for contact or drinking due to sewage contamination or run-off. Please see the Baltimore City Health Department for more info.
There is outdoor gym equipment scattered around the walking/biking course, making it a great place to work out!
Irvine is a beautiful place to be all year round. Families with children will love the beginner and intermediate hiking trails, as well as the interactive exhibit hall with animals and a kids area. The area is also great for nature enthusiasts of all types--I especially adore the Nature Store with green gifts and snacks. Great place for a picnic.

Lake Montebello is great because you can do exercise and you can watch the lake. It’s fun to watch ducks in the poind. It’s great to see seagulls fly in the air. Lake Montebello is good for your body sometimes. -Daniel, 5th grade
I like the Mothers Garden because on a special day you could go here. If someone is happy you could take them there and they might get excited. That is why I like the Mothers Garden. -Abigail, 5th grade
This is a quaint, litte nature center with free admission and nice variety of animals, insects, local plants and park lore that the kids can come close too. The staff is friendly approachable and knowledgeable. They are often available for questions and more. They also periodically have insect festivals and tours so be sure to ask for info while there. Since it's free and underfunded as a city entity, please drop a donation in their donation box on your way out. Be sure to check out this little known gem in west Baltimore!
