Think this has potential to be an interesting community garden area with fruit trees, hazel.
mmm maybe a raspberry plantation, with currents and gooseberries everyone likes them. With a nice border of comfrey, borrage, phacelia at the back and some colourful plantings coming forward at the most visual point. On the large pavement opposite it would be nice to plant up a large herb circle for the neighbourhood with curved benches inside it.
I can donate some Papaya plants The I start to grow this YEAR ...

Cewfs Malcolm tasmanian tea-tree hedge :)
Max Harvey Nothing for human consumption if it is close to a road as we all know that toxins from fumes concentrate themselves in the fruits of plants and can be quite dangerous if consumed.
Helen Reardon On a long coach journey I realised how many farm fields full of crops were being harvested right next to the motorway. Veg and animals are exposed to all manner of chemicals before...See More

Edible Landscaping Lovely south facing aspect. Quite a bit of traffic but as Helen says what makes us think that farm food doesn’t suffer from road pollution either? I generally think that the benefits of eating food straight from the tree/bush outweighs pollution considerations. By the time fruit and veg get to our supermarkets they have lost a lot of their vitamin and mineral content, so being able to pick straight from the tree has enormous benefits. And anyway, many people just don’t eat enough fruit and veg which has bad consequences for health and well being – having the produce readily available may help to change this habit. I think having fresh fruit packed full of vitamins which is free to harvest, is a good thing even if it’s got some diesel particulates. We can’t wait for the ideal conditions to arise to start to grow more fruit and veg in the city – the car is not going to disappear quickly but food prices are set to rise (http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/sep/19/mass-slaughter-farm-animals-food-prices?INTCMP=SRCH) by 14% this time next year. More and more people are going to be priced out of buying fresh produce – we need to start growing more food that is accessible and free now.
Think the suggestions made on the green map site sound good. It would be interesting to see if the papaya survives our winter – unfortunately the best place for it with the most shelter is north facing and too shady – could try it on the pedestrian island opposite. Generally, think that fruit, herbs, comfrey would all be good here – a mini forest garden cascading down from the billboard – starting with some big plums and / or hazelnuts which are more shade tolerant perhaps?
Yeah fruit trees and gooseberries around the hedge. In my wildest dreams there will be chickens too, fenced off - so walking cmmuters can pick up an egg for breakfast...
If Todmorden by the Pennines can get veg and herbs growing by t road I can t see why it would not work here.
Maybe start very simple and work up to more exotic things.
I d like to see flowers and bulbs mixed in to add some colour down there.
Everyone is so used to seeig ducks and geese in that area I think an orchard with chickens patroling the ground. If a community garden was to happen the local allotments which is just behind the houses could be encouraged to get involved.

Hi I coordinate the Taffs Community Currency Scheme and just wanted to thank you at Cardiff Transtition for adding our group to the Sustainable Cardiff map, and just to put word out that we are looking to build up our database, so please take a look at the website and see what A)On offer and B)Add something that you can offer, some people say that they don't know what to offer but it can be as simple as time to help someone. Our monthly trading sessions take place currently in Cathays Community Centre, Cathays Terrace, Cardiff on the first Sat of every month and some members bring secondhand items to trade there for the jams, plants, seeds and crafts on offer that other members make or grow. We have a great network of sustainably minded people, please join in, Ian, Taffs Coordinator. www.cardifftaffs.org.uk

Fantastic place to go and spend a day! Loads of very nice people sharing skills and ideas while working or having some lovely freshly cooked food. Tea and biscuits on offer most of the day and so many different things to do, you will not be bored or disappointed if you head down.
Looks like this network has petered out, no new posts on website since 2010
This is also the route for the 2014 Cardiff WNBR (https://www.facebook.com/events/771361622882716/)
