105 Ocean Boulevard
Edwardian Shingle Style House
Built in 1910, this house is nearly all square, wood shingled, and relative plain compared to the varied shapes and decorations of Victorian houses. The only departure is a round-head window in the center of the second floor. It was built as a summer home for Bessie Ballin, whose family estate included today's hilltop Ballinswood Road. The property represents part of the site of the former Grandview Hotel, built in 1882. This large, magnificent, three story hotel drew a large clientele of wealthy people from New York, but burned to the ground in 1893.
