At Sapsucker Woods just outside Ithaca, New York, you'll find the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, headquartered at the Imogene Powers Johnson Center for Birds and Biodiversity. The Visitor Center offers:

A bright, roomy observatory with chairs, telescopes, and bird feeders
Interactive exhibits that bring birds to life in sound and video
Identification aids and binoculars you can borrow
A world-class collection of bird art and sculpture
Special seminars in spring and fall
A Wild Birds Unlimited store packed with supplies, books, optics, and clothing

Sapsucker Woods is a beautiful place to visit in any season. The 230-acre sanctuary encompasses forests, ponds, ferny swamps, and abundant wildlife. More than four miles of trails and boardwalks are waiting for you to explore. Stop in to our Visitor Center for tips on where to go and to borrow a pair of binoculars; join a guided bird walk; or download a trail map and checklist and explore on your own.

With so many public area including wetlands, forests, dense brush habitats the Ithaca area is a great location to catch many species in flight or just perched around. When you are in the area also visit the Cornell Lab of Ornithology/ Sapsucker Woods Sanctuary, where you will find a plethora of information regarding birds. While at the Lab also enjoy their 220 acres of wildlife sanctuary in Sapsucker Woods which includes 4 miles of walking trails . A few Birding Hot Spots are Stewart Park in Ithaca, Myers Point in Lansing, and Dryden Lake in Dryden.
