The Harrington Park Public Library Association was formed in 1957 with the dream of
establishing a library in Harrington Park. It took almost 7 years of planning and
fundraising for this dream to come true, at a cost of $51,000 for the building and
furnishings. In April 1964, the library was dedicated and opened for 10 hours
weekly with an inventory of approximately 5000 books.

With the passage of a referendum in 1989 establishing the Harrington Park Public
Library, hours were lengthened, the collection was enlarged, a professionally
trained librarian was hired and the building was expanded to twice its original
size. Shortly thereafter, the Library’s collection was computerized and internet
service became available for the staff and public. Now, 56 years later, the H.P.
Library has settled into its role of being the center of Boro activity for Town
Residents and Organizations. With a collection of over 40,000 items including a
wide selection of dvds, music, magazines, audio books, foreign language materials,
wi-fi, and 6 computers for the public’s use, the Library proves its value each day.
