Green-Wood is a historic cemetery that was first opened in 1838 and is now a National Historic Landmark. This cemetery is situated on 478 acres of land in Brooklyn and is the resting place of 560,000 persons. Among the residents of Green-Wood are famous people including William “Boss” Tweed, Charles Ebbets, and many more. Full of beautiful and unique headstones, along with vast amounts of history, visitors are encouraged to explore the grounds and the tombstones. There are free maps available at each entrance so that visitors can find famous residents and not get lost in the sprawling cemetery. At the highest points in the cemetery you can see fantastic views of the NYC skyline and harbor. Green-Wood Cemetery helps to sustain the cultural history of Brooklyn.
