Ocracoke is part of the Outer Banks National Scenic Byway (from Hatteras south through Harker's Island). Start your Ocracoke portion of this trip by traveling South, down Route 12 from the Hatteras Ferry terminal passing 14 miles of beach, ocean dunes, sound-side views and maritime forests. Route 12 then enters Ocracoke Village and meanders by historic homes, shops, restaurants and a busy harbor ending at the southern end ferries to Swan Quarter or Cedar Island.
