This is a large area of common land (286 hectares). The common is a mosaic of wet and dry heathland bordered by predominantly native woodland Clyne Golf Course occupies the north eastern part of the common and Clyne Farm is in the top north east corner, also adjacent to Clyne Valley Country Park. Bishopston stream runs along the western edge of the common.Lookout for heathland birds such as skylark, linnet and snipe. There are also several species of dragonfly and butterfly present.It is a site of Interest for Nature Conservation (SINC)

The common and the rights of way that cross it link West Cross and Mayals with Murton, Blackhills and Clyne Valley.
