Nicholaston Woods

Overview
Nicholaston Wood is a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) due to its semi-natural broadleaved woodland. The wood is mostly characterised by a mix of ash, sycamore and oak, but in several areas planted beech is dominant, with wild cherry and a sparse shrub layer of holly. Other species present include ivy, dog’s mercury, hart’s-tongue fern, herb robert, bluebells, ivy, lords-and-ladies, and enchanter’s nightshade; wild garlic is locally abundant.
