Luther Lewis and Son Crab Company
Overview
Luther Lewis and Son has been in the seafood business since 1962. The company began as a crab-picking plant. Later, with the addition of trawlers, the company handled shrimp, fish, clams, and scallops.
In 1989, the company began making gourmet Crab Cakes, using a family recipe developed by a mother-dauther team: Nancy Lewis, a home economist by profession, and her daughter, Gay Mason, who joined her in the family business after college. Other members of the team are local women, known as great cooks and devloted to creating the best crab cakes possible. The Crab Cakes are now sold to restaurants, seafood markets, and grocery chains, locally and up and down the east coast.
Luther Lewis and Sons is located in Davis, North Carolina, on the shores of Core Sound overlooking Cape Lookout National Seashore and the Atlantic Ocean.
