Datun
Overview
Datun, written as “大屯” in Chinese, literally means “big storage”, which is another important part of the Olympic Park area besides the Wali village. It is really interesting to find out from the historic record that “Datun” indeed used to be the storage of army and food supplies during the Northern Song Dynasty (960 A.D.-1127A.D.), where the army passed by the area on their journey to the north. While Datun is a widely recognized location name among Beijing citizens and many other frequent travellers to Beijing, the origin of the name is still kept secret among the majority.
