Simon's Town Waste Drop-off

Recycling

Overview

No votes yet

Household or garden waste can be dropped off in-between waste collection days at any of the City’s 20 drop-off facilities.

Up to 1 300kg (1,3 tons) of non-hazardous waste may be disposed at any of these sites, at no cost. Green garden waste is then chipped and composted, while builder’s rubble is crushed for re-use.

Some drop-off sites also provide facilities for recycling of residential special waste such as tins, glass, paper, plastics, oil and electronic waste (such as old computers and cell phones). Waste that is not recyclable or re-useable is then transported to the landfill for disposal.

The Simon's Town drop-off facility accepts Garage waste, clean garden waste, motor oil, cans and metal, paper, cardboard, glass bottle, plastic, e-waste, clean builders rubble, polystyrene and tetrapak.

Please advise of the drop off rules. When wanting to drop off a ldv load of plastic bottles for recycling i was expected to place the bottles , hundreds of them in bags. The attendant expected that this bagging be done by me . I insisted to off load the clean. Bottles in the area marked for recycling. This was refused. The attendants informed that it is my job to load the bags , only two , clearly not enough for my load.
I dropped he bottles mostly 5 litre bottles in the area designated for re cycling. The officials thereafter locked the exit gate refusing that i leave . Stil insisting i finish the work of bagging the bottles. I insisted they speak to their management who after various discussions instructed them to open the gates for me to leave. I am not aware of any rule that insist that i as taxpayer keep the dropp off site clean and tidy. In fact the locking of the gates constitutes abduction. My plead is that clear guidelines be set to describe the job didcription of the attendants dealing with waste disposal at drop off areas. I own and pay taxes on three simonstown properties and do not expect to be forced to do the work of paid employees. Your kind attention will be appreciated . Thanks to the instruction of the manager , i may well still be sitting there , held against my will.
