Palmiet Nature Reserve
Overview
Palmiet Nature Reserve comprises riverine, grassland and cliff communities. The 90ha reserve is home to a rich diversity of birds and plants. Of interest is a small area of Transvaal Beech woodland. The reserve also contains historic sites of the Durban to Pietermaritzburg wagon route and a historic ram pump.

Driving Directions: Take the N3 west from Durban to Westville. Take the Westville/Pavilion off-ramp and turn right into St James Avenue. Travel along St James Avenue towards Westville and turn right into Jan Hofmeyer Road at the T-junction. After Westville Boys High School take first left into Old New Germany Road (Gwalagwala entrance - main) or second left into David McLean Drive (east entrance - alternative) to the reserve entrances. A further entrance is via Faurea Place (off Pitlochry Road) in Westville North.
