Everglades University has made a number of commitments to renewable energy projects and programs. They have installed a 25 kW system on roof, two - 3 kW solar trees and a solar lab for a total of 45kW on campus. They have two Electric Vehicle charging stations and a vertical axis wind turbine. Additionally, the university was recognized by the U.S. Green Building with the 2013 LEEDership Award as a business of the year as a result of our energy-saving initiatives taking place at the Sarasota Campus.

As a green business partner, Everglades University is committed to recycling programs and waste reduction. They involve staff and students in our campus recycling programs that include paper shredding, plastic bottles and cans. EU purchases reusable products rather than disposables such as coffee cups, copy paper and filing folders. Their office has created a central filing system that is striving to go paperless, and has an internal program to reuse office supplies and other reusable items.
Everglades University is focused on protecting our water resources. The campus has installed low flow toilets and faucet aerators to reduce water usage. Due to the proximity to a wildlife protected wetland, the campus has reduced watering and implemented landscaping measures to control runoff. These measures include using Florida native plants that are grouped together to maintain a landscape that exists predominantly on rainfall once they were established.

Everglades University became a Sarasota County Green Business Partner in 2014. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County.
