Biotechnology High School Demonstration Rain Garden
Overview
History:
This rain garden was designed by the students of the Biotechnology High School in the Spring of 2009 with the assistance of Bill Sciarappa, Agricultural Agent for Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Monmouth County. In Summer 2009, the rain garden was expanded upon as part of the Rain Garden Certification Pilot Program. This rain garden serves as an outdoor classroom for the students of the Biotechnology High School and their guests. In Spring 2010, this rain garden was utilized as part of a field trip experience for students in the Freehold Township School District.
Type of Runoff Managed:
This rain garden manages runoff from the Monmouth County Biotechnology High School parking lot and lawn.
Installation:
Approximately forty-five Master Gardeners, Rutgers Cooperative Extension Water Resources Program faculty and staff, students and other volunteers participated in the installation of this rain garden in the Summer of 2009. This rain garden installation was part of the Rain Garden Certification Pilot Program held at the RutgersCooperative Extension of Monmouth County facility.
Maintenance:
This rain garden is maintained by the Master Gardeners of Monmouth County and the students of the Biotechnology High School.
